For this tenth week on the farm, it was a week devoted to the farm.
Helen didn't need us in the "Lars House" because professionals came to work in the different rooms.
In order not to disturb, we therefore worked on the farm with Sean. We took care of the sheep. It is the birth period. We must therefore be very vigilant. Sean separates his sheep in different pastures, we regularly go around the different pastures to check each sheep and each baby. Every day, baby sheep are born. However, we also had the unpleasant surprise of finding dead baby sheep, it's quite shocking to see, but unfortunately it's the daily life on a farm.
When a baby sheep is born, Sean isolates it and keeps it warm with his mother for about 48 hours. A sheep can have up to three sheep.
Then we put the baby sheep and their mothers in a new pasture.
It's a pretty physical job, but really enjoyable. For the first time in my life, I attended a birth. Sean is not required to be present for the delivery, the sheep gives birth alone. However, in order to avoid complications, it is preferable to monitor each delivery, even if this is not possible, at the timing level.
We also finished some pastures so that Sean could put his cows outside. Gradually, he begins to feed his cows. The farm is gradually emptying itself.
This week at the farm was very pleasant from a personal point of view, it felt great to be back on the farm and with the animals.
